Rimac’s New Hypercar Is Faster Than A Tesla, Self-Driving, Has 1,914 HP And Facial Recognition

The next-generation Tesla Roadster can zoom from 0 to 60 in a neck-snapping 1.9 seconds. The Rimac Concept Two can go even faster. Rimac claims that the Concept Two can launch from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 1.85 seconds. But this hypercar from Croatia doesn’t just stop at 60 mph. Rimac boasts that their supercar speeds from 0 to 100 mph in 4.3 seconds and can run a quarter mile in 9.1 seconds. The Concept Two only needs 11.8 seconds to reach 186 mph from a standstill. Do you still have the need for speed? Good because the Rimac Concept Two reaches a pavement-melting top speed of 258 mph. Let me remind you, the Concept Two is an electric vehicle, and electric vehicles are expected to be quick, but not supposed to go that fast. Only a handful of gas-powered hypercars are faster — Koenigsegg Agera RS, Hennessey Venom GT, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, and Bugatti Chiron.

The Rimac Concept Two can achieve these speeds because it is powered by four electric motors, that pump out an astounding 1,914 horsepower and 1,696 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. It also has four gearboxes; a pair of single-speed units for the front motors and a pair of two-speed gearboxes for acceleration of the rear motors. The racy Rimac is rated to have a total range of 404 miles. You can charge the Concept Two’s 120-kWh battery pack up to 80% in only 30 minutes using the 250-kWh fast charger.

The Concept Two made its world premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The electric vehicle built of carbon-fiber and weighs only 4,299 pounds. The styling is very aggressive, highlighted by a rear wing and a pair of gullwing doors. But the Concept Two EV is far from just a ridiculous high-performance automobile with an aerodynamic body. The Concept Two also has facial recognition that will unlock your doors and even start the car. The face recognition feature can even read your facial expressions and adjust the ride accordingly, such as softening the wide if it detects you are anxious or nervous.

The Concept Two will also have semi-autonomous functionality at some point. The Croatian car manufacturer is expected to offer Level 4 autonomous driving thanks to eight cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, two lidar, and six radar systems. That means under certain conditions, the car can operate without human interaction. Why you would ever not want to pilot this jet fighter for the road is beyond me. The car even has an onboard driving coach to improve your racing times and lines by capturing eight terabytes of data each hour and has the computing power of 22 Macbook Pros. The Concept Two features carbon ceramic brakes and special Pirelli tires.

Rimac Automobili only plans to produce 150 Concept Two electric vehicles and it will cost a whopping $1 million. Check out the Aspark Owl, another unbelievable electric supercar that can go 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds.
