Authorities Revealed The Gruesome Cause Of Death Of The Boy Who Died Sunday On The World’s Tallest Waterslide

Yesterday, we reported on the death of 10-year-old Caleb Schwab, who passed away while riding down the world’s tallest waterslide, the Verruckt, at Kansas City’s Schlitterbahn Water Park.

Today, police confirmed to Time Magazine exactly how Caleb died on the ride. It is awful.

Caleb Schwab, the son of a state lawmaker, sustained a fatal “neck injury” at around 2:30 p.m. while riding the 168-foot-tall “Verruckt” (meaning “insane” in German) water slide, the Associated Press reports. Police confirmed to TIME on Tuesday that the boy was decapitated in the accident. He was found dead at the bottom of the ride in a pool.

As reported by USA Today, the ride originally had an age restriction, but was deemed unnecessary.

Three riders are weighted together on a scale, and combined must be between 400 and 550 lbs. Riders must be at least 54-inches tall, and while previously the park had instituted an age minimum of 14 years, they’ve since removed it, saying the height requirement is sufficient.

Caleb was riding down the Verruckt with two other women at the time, who sustained minor injuries.

Authorities said the death is currently being investigated as a civil, and not criminal, case.
