For the 3rd time since 2017, the New York Yankees have run into the Houston Astros in the ALCS. As was the case the first 2 times, the Astros entered the series with home-field advantage. The first two times, things didn’t end well for the Yankees.

This time around, it seems that their manager believes that home-field advantage could be to blame for the team’s loss in Game 2.

Last night, the Yankees lost 3-2 to the Astros to fall behind 2-0 in the series, but they did have a chance to change that in the 8th inning. Aaron Judge stepped up to the plate with 1 out and Harrison Bader on 1st. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Judge drove a slider to deep right field.

The ball fell short of the 2-run home run the Yankees hoped it would be, but Bader advanced to 2nd on the play. Giancarlo Stanton then struck out to end the inning.

After the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone blamed the Astros’ decision to keep the roof open on their stadium for Judge not hitting a home run in his at-bat.

The much bigger issue for the Yankees was once again the inability to reach base consistently. They only had 4 hits in the game and even the 2 runs they managed to score had more to do with a mistake by the Astros than anything that they did.

There’s also a way the Yankees could have avoided this issue. They could have played better in August to avoid giving up home-field advantage to the Astros, so they’d only be at the mercy of their decisions for 3 games instead of 4.

Now the Yankees get to return to their home field and it’s shrunken dimensions where they will need their bats to quickly turn things around. Otherwise they’ll be looking at a 3rd consecutive ALCS trip that ends with the Houston Astros sending them home.
