College football hasn’t even gotten all the way to bowl season yet, but there are already some big names that have figured out what the future holds for them.

Will Levis has already declared for the draft. Hudson Card has decided that he will leave Texas to pursue a starting job elsewhere. Now another Power 5 quarterback has made a major decision about his future.

According to The Athletic’s Max Olson, Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong has decided to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer after spending 5 seasons with the Cavaliers.

Armstrong had a very impressive 2021 season. In his 2nd year as Virginia’s starting quarterback, Armstrong threw for 4449 yards and 31 touchdowns while leading the Cavaliers to a 6-6 record and bowl eligibility.

2022 has not been nearly as successful. Armstrong struggled through the 2022 season, throwing for just 2210 yards and 7 touchdowns in 10 games while also being intercepted 12 times. As a result of those struggles, Virginia was one of the worst Power 5 offenses in the country. The Cavaliers only reached 20 points in 3 games this season.

He was also responsible for this disastrous start against Pitt that saw Virginia fall behind by 2 scores before Pitt’s offense ever touched the ball.

That pick-6 was followed by another on Virginia’s next snap.

Despite the struggles, there should still be interest in Armstrong as a starting quarterback for next season. Whichever program he lands with will be hoping they can figure out how to get him back to the version they saw in 2021 after a rough 2022.
