Adam Schefter’s Idea For The NFL Draft May Be The Worst Idea In The History Of Ideas

The NFL Draft is going to look different this year given the current situation the world finds itself in. The league has already announced that it won’t be taking place in Las Vegas as planned, but as of right now it is set to go on as originally scheduled April 23-25.

It goes without saying that the NFL is going to have to change things up compared to what we’ve seen in years past due to the circumstances, so Adam Schefter decided to offer up his idea for a new-look Draft and holy shit is it a doozy.

Schefter’s brain somehow came up with the idea of the Draft being expanded into a seven-night event where only one round would take place each night. He referred to the idea as “the Hanukkah of NFL Drafts.”

“How about having one round of the draft on every night,” Schefter said on ESPN’s Get Up. “So we have seven nights, seven rounds. Basically, it’s the Hanukkah of NFL Drafts. And there’s no rush to get through anything. It gives teams on the clock more time. It’s not like coaches have to have players in minicamps next week. They don’t. There are no minicamps. There’s no offseason program. There’s no other sporting event on the calendar. Have the draft occur one round per night for one straight week.”

How in the hell does Schefter think that making the Draft seven nights, giving teams more time on the clock and slowing things down to an excruciating speed is a good idea? We know this is your life, Schefter and realized that there’s likely not going to be any other sporting events going on at the time, but no, absolutely not.

The current Draft setup is pretty tough to beat. The super casual fans tune in for the first dozen or so picks with the average fan at the very least watching the entire first-round. Day two is still intriguing enough for casual fans and die-hard college football fans to see where players from their favorite schools get drafted in the second and third rounds. By the time the third and final day rolls around, most fans aren’t paying close attention at all and just catch up with everything on social media.

So yeah, adding another FOUR DAYS to the process could be the worst idea in the history of ideas. Not only would it drag on for fans, imagine the players actually getting drafted having to wait around for their name to be called for seven full days.
