Andrej Stojakovic, son of NBA sharpshooting legend Peja Stojakovic, was one of the most talented freshmen in college basketball this year. With his pedigree, size, and shooting ability, many were very intrigued about his long term upside as a player.

Stojakovic spent his freshman year at Stanford, but that’s all the time he spent there. Now, the former McDonald’s All-American will enter the transfer portal and look to find a better fit for his talents.

There’s no doubt that Andrej Stojakovic will be one of the biggest prizes in the transfer portal this offseason. Don’t let his 7.8 ppg average fool you. The kid can play.

at 6-foot-6, he brings great length for a true shooting guard. And, unlike his dad, who was mostly a perimeter shooter, Stojakovic is a proficient slasher who can get his own shot off the dribble. And, in theory, he shouldn’t be as big of a defensive liability as Peja was.

He was not efficient at all this year on a bad Stanford team, splitting 41/32/53. Those numbers need to get better, but there’s no reason to expect they won’t. He was a top-25 recruit in the Class of 2023 by On3 due to his ability to score the basketball against top competition in California high school basketball and the travel circuit.

Andrej Stojakovic did show flashes of greatness this year.

Peja Stojakovic was a three-time NBA All-Star, and played for five teams from 1998-2011. His best years were with the great Sacramento Kings teams of the early 2000’s. He still sits in the top thirty in career made threes, and the only player who retired before Peja and made more threes was Reggie Miller. In an era like today, it’s easy to assume he would’ve made a lot more threes, given modern spacing and offensive philosophy.

I expect the nation’s top programs to heavily pursue Andrej Stojakovic and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
