Rhode Island Head Coach Archie Miller Makes Huge Gaffe While Talking About The SEC

The SEC has truly made their mark on the college basketball zeitgeist in recent years. In what once was thought of as a football league with Kentucky and a rotating couple of schools carrying the league has turned into arguably the nation’s best conference.

On Monday, former Indiana head coach and current Rhode Island head coach Archie Miller was discussing the national picture and how hard it is to win conference games. He thought he had a slick argument, using the SEC as an example, but it wasn’t slick at all.

Miller fell for a troll tweet about the SEC and ran with it. Take a look.

“I heard somebody say the other day, like, you know, the SEC is the best league in the country, but you know, in all games, they’re like, 54-54. Somebody said that, I don’t know if that’s even accurate. But like, do you know how hard it is in every league to win? You know, it’s just hard to win any game.”

All of that is completely true, Archie! In fact, the stat he had is correct!

Here’s the problem. The SEC has been playing exclusively conference games since then. There has to be a winner and a loser, so the record is always going to be .500 among all teams in conference play.

How that was lost on Archie Miller is unknown, but it’s clear he didn’t think it through.

Miller is in the 3rd year of a huge rebuild. After winning 9 and 12 games in his first two years in Kingston, they’re 14-6 this year, though under .500 in A-10 play.
