Trevor May retired on Monday, and it didn’t take long for the former Oakland A’s pitcher to reveal his feelings about the team’s owner. He erupted on John Fisher shortly after the retirement announcement, saying everything that most around the organization already believe to be true.

May played in Oakland for just one season, posting a 4-4 record in 2023 with a career-best 21 saves. He also spent six seasons in Minnesota and two with the Mets.

It’s clear that the short stint with the A’s left a mark.

On Monday, he called it quits on his MLB career, posting a message to fans and followers on social media.

May quickly blew past that retirement announcement to absolutely rip into Oakland ownership.

“Sell the team, dude… Take mommy and daddy’s money somewhere else,” the pitcher said of A’s owner John Fisher. “If you’re going to be a greedy f—, own it. There’s nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras.

“That’s one thing I really struggled with this year,” he continued. “Is just eviscerating that guy… You shouldn’t have any power because you haven’t earned any of it… Reality is you got handed everything you have, and now you’re too soft to take any responsibility for anything that you’re doing.

“You’re putting hundreds, if not thousands of people out of work, who have worked somewhere for decades. You haven’t acknowledged that at all… Be better.”

May is referencing the move to Las Vegas that the A’s are likely to make, leaving many in Oakland unhappy after having baseball in the city for the last 55 years.

The fans attempted to protest that move this season, going as far as to organize a ‘reverse boycott’ earlier in the year. Unfortunately, attendance has been down over the last few years, and the few that were in the stands were doing anything but watching baseball.

Much of that is due to the product on the field.

Ownership has been hesitant to spend money on the team, getting rid of star players like Matt Olson and Sean Murphy this past offseason. That approach led to back-to-back 100-loss campaigns, including posting a 50-112 record in 2023.

Management seems to be doing everything it can to kickstart the move to Las Vegas. It’s clear that those actually playing for and supporting the team disapprove of the way the organization is being run.
