A Texas State band member was ejected from Bobcat Stadium on Saturday for allegedly stealing the opposing team’s “Turnover Trident” and passing to up to the students section. Photos of the trident in the crowd were taken at the game, along with a video showing the band member being escorted off the sidelines.

The hilarious moment quickly went viral, leading to a reaction from college football fans online.

The Bobcats hosted Nevada on Saturday, pulling out a come-from-behind victory for the home crowd. After falling behind 17-0, Texas State roared back with 35 unanswered points in the second half.

Nevada would add a late touchdown to make the score a little closer, but the Bobcats would win 35-24.

During that game, students in the Texas State stands got to be in on the action. At one point in the contest, a Bobcats band member got his hands on Nevada’s “Turnover Trident” and handed it over to the crowd.

Videos soon surfaced of the trident making its way around the students’ section. At first, it was believed that the band member had thrown turnover prop at Nevada players, but it seems simply passing it to the crowd was enough to warrant the ejection.

Colton McWilliams was on the beat, filling followers in on exactly what transpired.

“FINAL UPDATE ABOUT THE TRIDENT INCIDENT: The person in question DID NOT throw a trident at the Nevada players. The Turnover Trident in question was lying on the ground and was given to the student section which obviously caused a bit of a stir.”

Fans immediately posted reactions to the bizarre turn of events.

“So, the turnover trident was… turned over?” this fan asked.

“Trident Gate!” wrote another.

“Whoever this mystery trident guy is, he needs a thorough interview,” one follower commented.

The trident was eventually returned to its rightful owners, and unfortunately, the band member missed a great second half comeback. Still, he’ll have one heck of a story to tell on campus this week.
