In theory, there’s no better way to Get Rich Quick when betting on sports than by trying your luck on a parlay—although it also happens to be one of the easiest ways to not only lose money but get a metaphorical haymaker delivered directly to your gut in the process.

In the past year alone, we’ve seen plenty of examples highlighting both sides of that reality. One NASCAR fan was able to turn $13 into $1 million on a relatively modest four-legger while an NFL fan with action on 15 different games took home a cool $1.13 million after throwing down $50, but we also have the MLB bettor who saw things fall apart after hitting the first 15 wagers on their slip before the final one failed to come to fruition.

On Sunday, Taylor Denney found themselves in a similar position after a very successful slate of games that resulted in him needing the Rams to walk away with a win over the 49ers on Monday Night Football to cash in on a $10, 15-leg parlay that had the potential to pay out a grand total of $74,702.67.

While he received an offer to cash out to the tune of $23,100 after the Chiefs beat the Buccaneers, the Kansas City native (who currently lives in Phoenix) opted to adopt the ultimate gambler’s mentality and let it ride.

The Rams were the slimmest of underdogs on the slip in question, as Denney had them at +104 on the moneyline in a game where San Francisco was favored to win by two points over the defending Super Bowl champions.

While the Rams were able to open up the scoring with a field goal, the 49ers got a quick touchdown, headed into the locker room sporting a 14-6 lead at halftime, and never really looked back in a game that produced a series of videos documenting Denney slowly but surely having his hopes and dreams crushed.

However, there were some silver linings. Denney hedged his initial bet with a $20 wager on the 49ers to ultimately net $5, and Bleacher Report offered him and his crew a trip (who watched the game from the rooftop pool at Circa) back to Las Vegas for a weekend trip to watch the NFL playoffs.

It might not be the same as what he stood to win, but it’s certainly better than nothing.
