Boston Celtics Reportedly Positioning Themselves For ‘Seismic’ Move

The Boston Celtics have been busy during the NBA offseason.

They made a big trade that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Boston, but cost the Celtics Marcus Smart.

More recently, they traded Grant Williams to the Mavericks in a move that netted them a couple of draft picks.

That move struck some fans as odd with Williams having been an important role player for the Celtics over the past couple of years and the picks not helping them compete right now.

However, it seems the Celtics may be positioning themselves for something big.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach revealed that league sources are telling him that the Celtics are positioning themselves for a “seismic” move.

“No, the Celtics do not have a plan to start a youth movement centered on draft picks. This capital will eventually serve as currency in a larger deal, with the Celtics well-positioned for a seismic strike, league sources said. The spree of recent activity has bred speculation that they could be staking out their big move right now, but a league source said that appears unlikely.”

According to that report, the move won’t be coming right now.

That makes sense with the Celtics seemingly being out of the race for Damian Lillard.

It also lines up with one of the biggest advantages the Celtics have right now. They don’t need to rush into anything.

Jaylen Brown is 26 years old. Jayson Tatum is 25. Even Porzingis is just 27. That gives the Celtics a pretty large window to contend.

There aren’t a ton of stars out there for the Celtics to try and land right now, but that could change ahead of the next trade deadline or next summer.

Right now it looks like the Boston Celtics are going to see if Porzingis was the missing piece, but they’ll be positioned to make a huge splash next offseason if he isn’t.
