Bruce Arians has been coaching football at some level since 1975. Having spent over 45 years on the sideline and the fact that he’ll turn 70-years-old this October, questions about when he may retire are certainly valid.

Add all that to the fact that his team’s starting quarterback, who just so happens to be the greatest to ever do it, just hung it up, many are curious whether or not Arians has given serious thought into calling it quits himself.

Despite the fact that he’ll be coaching a team without Tom Brady next season and is facing a number of roster question marks, Arians has made it very clear that he isn’t contemplating retirement just yet. In fact, the idea of building a new-look Tampa Bay team is intriguing to him.

“I tried retirement and it didn’t work out too good,” Arians told Frank Bodani of the York Daily Record. “I’m having a good time. It’s easy for me with my coordinators coming back. Why not coach?

“I don’t really know anything else. And the building of relationships, the new guys coming in …,” he stopped himself in mid-sentence. “I never thought I’d coach Tom Brady, and if I was still retired I never would have won a Super Bowl (as a head coach). Coming out of the tunnel every Sunday is awesome.”

It would be pretty easy, and understandable even, for Arians to go off into the sunset the same time Brady is, but he’s still got that itch to coach, that’s for sure.

It also doesn’t hurt that his wife, Christine, isn’t ready to see him retire either.

“We had that (retirement) talk … so we’ll see what next year brings,” Christine Arians said. “He loves it. Are you kidding me? It’s a challenge. He loves a challenge.”
