Bryson DeChambeau trolls Nick Faldo at British Open.
Bryson DeChambeau trolled golf legend Nick Faldo over comments made about his non-existent gameplan. Faldo said DeChambeau lacked strategy. His counterpart bit back on Thursday.
DeChambeau rebounded in his fourth and final major of the season after missing cuts in his first three. He currently sits at -3 after his first round of the British Open.
The golfer made it a point to note his strategy on the course, which worked to perfection on Day 1.

Prior to the start of the Open Championship, Faldo was asked about DeChambeau. He didn’t hold back any punches.
“(Bryson’s) a superstar at LIV, but comes over here and can’t do it,” he began. “He has, and I’d say it to his face, zero clue of strategy… He said last year, ‘I’m going to go out and attack the links.’ You don’t attack the links, you thread it.”
Faldo went onto discuss the approach for Royal Birkdale. The course determines style of play. Precision is more important than power.
DeChambeau is known for his driver. He can launch golf balls as far as any player in the sport. That proves effective at many locations. It’s not the case for links golf.
Faldo didn’t seem to expect much from DeChambeau in Southport, England. He got a surprise on Thursday, and he heard about it after the fact.
On Tuesday, Nick Faldo said Bryson DeChambeau had “zero clue of strategy.”
Today, in his post-round interview, Bryson said he “did a really good job today of being incredibly strategic.” pic.twitter.com/RIjb7xyKQ3

“I think you’ve got to be a lot more strategic out on the golf course,” DeChambeau started. “I feel like I did a really good job today of being incredibly strategic and focused super hard on placing (the ball) in the right places… by hitting more fairways. Yeah, I think my strategy was nice today.”
Couldn’t have been clearer. It was a calculated response to Nick Faldo’s criticism.
Bryson DeChambeau is looking to make the cut for the first time in a major this year. He failed to finish the weekend at the Masters, the PGA Championship, or the US Open.
He’s gotten off to a great start by shooting three-under on Day 1 of the British Open. He’ll continue relying on strategy to quiet his haters.
