Max Iheanachor, a rookie offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, had at least $150,000 worth of items stolen from his home by burglars during a preseason game. Iheanachor is just the latest in a lengthy, growing list of professional athletes to have property stolen from their homes while they were away.

On August 26, someone noticed the garage door open and broken glass, so they called the police to Max Iheanachor’s home. The two residents of the home then greeted police at the scene in Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington area and said that they had closed all the doors, including the garage door, when they left around 10:30 a.m.

The break-in occurred the day before the Steelers’ last preseason game in Buffalo. The two residents reported that thieves took jewelry and luxury bags valued at between $150,000 and $200,000, according to a Pittsburgh police spokesperson who spoke with The Athletic.

Police have not taken anyone into custody, but they are still investigating the break-in. The Steelers declined to comment when asked by The Athletic. Ryan Williams, Iheanachor’s agent, also did not immediately respond when sought for comment.

The Steelers selected the 22-year-old Iheanachor in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. He was the No. 21 overall pick out of Arizona State.

Was the break-in part of a series of burglaries of athletes’ homes?

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was also recently the victim of a home burglary while he was at training camp, with over $300,000 worth of property stolen. According to police, Lamb’s home in Fairview, Texas, was broken into on July 31 while he was at the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, California.

Police said that evidence showed that one suspect entered and exited Lamb’s house through the broken window while stealing “several high-end personal items.”

Last year, law enforcement arrested several alleged members of a South American Theft Group for burglarizing the homes of professional athletes. Authorities also charged two owners of a pawn shop with allegedly running a fencing operation and selling the athletes’ stolen items.

Since then, burglars have broken into several more professional athletes’ homes. In December, WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu and former NFL lineman Hroniss Grasu had their Los Angeles home broken into and burglarized. Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Ketel Marte also had their homes burglarized in 2025.

In July, two individuals broke into Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley’s home in Malvern, Pennsylvania. One of the suspects entered the house while Barkley and his family were in the house, but took nothing, and thankfully, the suspect did not injure anyone.
