Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi have beef. Whether they choose admit it publicly or not, they both have a chip on their shoulder regarding the other.

It is already one of the most exciting rivalries in the WNBA.

The whole thing started at the beginning of April when Taurasi, who is widely considered one of the top-five greatest players in league history, issued a strong warning to Clark. She said that “reality is coming.” Her comments about wanting to “kill” rookies in the past proved that the three-time WNBA champion and 10-time All-Star was dead serious about the caution.

Clark offered an extremely classy response to the handful of former and current players who offered criticism— which include Breanna Stewart and Sheryl Swoopes.

If you’re on the highest stage there’s always going to be people that are critiquing you, there’s always going to be people that are complimenting you. I think think that just speaks to how I was raised. I’ve never been one to weigh the opinions of haters too much.

I think the biggest thing for myself is just having confidence in who I am and what I’ve been able to do with my career. By no means do I think I’m going to go in there and score 30 points per game, but I think I’m confident in my ability annd that’s what I’m excited for.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Mercury (where Taurasi has played her entire career after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2004) actively promoted the matchup against Clark to sell single game tickets. The organization did so shortly after their star player’s bold comments were made on national television.

This is where things get wonky for the team. More specifically, for its social media admin.

Caitlin Clark or Diana Taurasi?!

2.45 million people watched this year’s WNBA Draft, in large part to see Clark drafted first overall. That broke the previous record set in 2004, when Taurasi was drafted, by more than 4X.

@BarstoolUIowa responded to the news by saying “Don’t tell Diana that” on X. @PhoenixMercury replied back to say “Apparently GOATS live rent free.”

This, of course, is very ironic.

The same group of people that is saying “GOATS live rent free” posted a graphic to promote Clark’s first game in Phoenix. It has not posted an equivalent graphic for any other team or player in the league.

And it was the Mercury, a professional sports organization, who replied back to a Hawkeyes-affiliated Barstool account. The post did not even mention the team!

Are we sure that Taurasi is the one who is living rent-free?? Let’s look in the mirror…
