Utah is a fairly mild-mannered place where many people treat caffeine like it’s a Scheule I substance and BYU funnels former Mormon missionaries who honed their basketball skills on the carpeted courts of temples across the country. The angriest you’ll probably ever see anyone from Utah get is when a Cougar player used a shocking almost-profanity while yelling at a heckler during a game last season.
Despite their polite reputation, that doesn’t mean the people of Utah aren’t capable of doling out some heckling of their own. Russell Westbrook learned this the hard way during last night’s 113-96 loss to the Jazz when he was benched in the second quarter after picking up his fourth foul. The crowd erupted after the call and taunted Westbrook as he walked off the court, including one particular notable attendee: Mitt Romney.
Romney held up four fingers while clad in what I thought was his best blue button down and Carlos Boozer jersey (which would be a perfectly ironic choice for the politician), but it turned out to be even better than I ever could have imagined.
I’m so glad we live in a world where Mitt Romney has is own custom Utah Jazz jersey.
The loss put Westbrook and the Thunder into a 3-1 hole as they head back to Oklahoma City in a win-or-have to stay in fucking Oklahoma City situation. Let’s hope they have some famous Oklahomans of their own like… um… Garth Brook and… uh… Reba McEntire in attendance to return the favor.
