Cardale Jones Explains Why He Bullied A Sick Kid In The Hospital While At Ohio State

Cardale Jones’ NFL career may not have gone exactly how he would have hoped.

But the big QB with an even bigger arm will go down in history as an Ohio State Buckeyes legend.

Not only did Jones come off the bench (as the third stringer!) to lead the Bucks to a national title in the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2015, but he was also once of college football’s best ever characters.

Take, for example, the time he beat the brakes off of a hospitalized child in EA Sports NCAA Football.

If that sounds insane to you, just know that you’re not alone. But now we know why.

As the story goes, Jones and some of his teammates were visiting Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

While there, Jones took on patient Jared Foley in a game of EA Sports NCAA Football 14.

Shortly after, a story emerged about Jones beating the breaks off of Foley, then 15 years old, 91-35. But Jones set the record straight shortly thereafter.

Actually, the score was 98-35.

So, why would Jones do that?

Thankfully, Meadowlark Media’s Pablo Torre had the same question. And we got an answer from Jones on a recent episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out.

“Jared Foley was a kid that I had the honor to meet when I was in college,” Jones says at the 21:30 mark of the above video. “I’m going through out College Football Playoff run, getting ready for Alabama, and one of our coaches at the time, he had a prior relationship with the family.

“So, he (saw) us leaving and he like ‘hey, do you guys mind running up here to children’s hospital with me?’ I’m like ‘yeah, let’s do it.’ There’s where the Foley family connection was introduced.”

So, how did that escalate to the butt kicking?

“I saw his gaming system in there. I think it was an XBox at the time and I made a joke to him ‘man, ain’t nobody play XBox’ because I’m a PlayStation guy,” Jones said. “And I said ‘what games do you got?’ What’s (your) favorite game?’ And he said NCAA.

“And I kinda made the joke ‘man, I’d kick your butt in that.’ And his family was like ‘oh, you sure about that? He’s pretty good.’ And I’m just looking like ‘hey, guys, I am pretty good at this game. I kick my teammates butts all the time.’ So we popped it in and I’m just looking over to the family, not saying anything in front of Jared, I’m like ‘do you guys expect me to let him win?'”

Foley’s family said no. And they lived to regret that decision.

“Jared plays with Georgia. Georgia’s his favorite team. And he takes the opening kickoff to the house on me,” Jones said. “So his family is like ‘yeah, I told you! I told you he(‘s) good!’…So I’m just like ‘okay, okay here we go. We got a game.’ So I just let him have it.”

And the rest is history.

Jones says he had to have put up one of the best stat lines in gaming history with himself in at quarterback.

What’s even better is that Foley and Jones have reportedly formed a strong friendship. They remain in touch and still play one another in video games and Foley has Jones’ phone number.

But just know, if you ever invite Cardale Jones to play you in video games, you will get the smoke.
