The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves at 2-5 to begin the season. They haven’t been able to get the ball rolling, especially offensively. For that reason, star receiver Chase Claypool lights up the coaching staff for their playcalling.

According to Brooke Pryor, Claypool shared his opinion on what he’d like to see more from the offense. The Steelers offense hasn’t been successful in throwing the deep ball. However, Chase Claypool wants to see more of those types of plays called. With that in mind, the star receiver kind of calls out Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada in his statement.

He tries to temper down his comments by claiming “I’m not saying that’s on the playcalling, I’m just saying we need to try to find a way to scheme it up.” It’s a rather odd approach, as Chase Claypool offered his input about the playcalling and then tried to immediately backpedal out of it.

Either way, the Steelers might as well open up the playbook a bit. Although the offensive line is treacherous and can’t protect the quarterback, throwing the ball downfield more often wouldn’t hurt. Especially with Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and George Pickens running routes.

With the season slipping away, now might be the time for Matt Canada to call those types of plays. The Steelers’ offensive coordinator has been a bit on the conservative side this year. Maybe he and Mike Tomlin will find a way to switch things up.

At the end of the day, now might not be the time to criticize the Steelers’ offensive coordinator. Especially considering trade rumors have been swirling around Chase Claypool for several weeks.
