Chicago Bears Put Chase Claypool On PUP List

The Chicago Bears have a lot invested in wide receiver Chase Claypool. But, it hasn’t paid off yet.

The former Notre Dame player came over in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a steep price of a 2nd round pick. That pick turned into the first pick of the 2nd round, which turned into Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

So, with that kind of price tag, the Bears would like to get big-time production out of Chase Claypool. But, he was awful last year in Chicago, catching just 7 passes for 140 yards in 7 games with the team. Those numbers would get most players cut, but the Bears have to try to get something out of their investment.

The talent is there. He had 1600 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns in his first two seasons in Pittsburgh, and at 6-foot-4 with 4.4 speed and great strength, he’s conceivably a great target.

He needs to be that guy for young quarterback Justin Fields. They did add former Panthers star DJ Moore to be the number one target. That was fortuitous, as they won’t have Chase Claypool on the Physically Unable to Perform List prior to training camp.

The reason is unknown, and unlike the regular season PUP list, he can be taken off at any time. But, it’s still not what Bears fans wanted to hear about Chase Claypool
