The NFL MVP race is heating up. With only three weeks of regular season games left to go, more and more players are getting eliminated as it becomes clear who are real contenders for the award.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen led early on in the season. But, he was supplanted by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts around midseason as the favorite.

Hurts is still right there in the MVP race, as the Eagles are 13-1 and have staked a claim as the best team in the NFL. He has thrown for nearly 3500 yards and 22 touchdowns to go against just 7 interceptions. And, he’s added 742 yards on the ground to go with another 13 touchdowns. It’s quite the year for the former 2nd round pick.

Allen has more or less faded out of it, though he’s still having an excellent season himself. But, Patrick Mahomes has emerged as a serious contender.

The Texas Tech product has thrown for a remarkable 4496 yards with 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Most impressively, the Chiefs’ offense has not missed a beat after losing star receiver Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins in the offseason. The perennial candidate and 2018 MVP winner has made it a close MVP race.

And, his coach is now speaking out and making a case for Mahomes.

Kansas City Chiefs Coach Andy Reid thinks that Patrick Mahomes should win the MVP

Andy Reid knows a thing or two about great offenses and MVP winners. And, he strongly feels that his quarterback should be this year’s winner.

According to the article, Reid said the following about Mahomes.

“You saw Pat and what he did. I mean, he took care of business today,” Reid said in his press conference. “He went back to work and worked on it. I mean, you’re talking about a guy that, if he’s not the MVP in the league, I’m not sure what’s wrong with them.

“But he cleaned it up and comes out, and we have almost 500 yards of offense, minus 100 of penalties. That’s a pretty spectacular day there. But that’s what he did. Great example of how you go back to the drawing board and make sure that you clean everything up.”

Personally, I agree with Reid. Mahomes has made it look easy even after losing Hill, and to me, he deserves the MVP.

Ultimately, only the opinions of the fifty voters count for anything.
