Mike Krzyzewski is 75-years-old and has been the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils for over half of his entire life. Given the fact that he’s calling it quits at the end of this season, his 42nd at Duke, many are wondering what’s next for the legendary coach.

Most people assume that Coach K will continue to play some sort of role with Duke basketball given that’s essentially all he’s known for 40+ years, but he’s claiming that when he’s done, he’s done.

“I will have nothing to do with our basketball program,” Krzyzewski said, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander. “This is not about me … [Things have been said] where I’m trying to maintain control. That could not be further from the truth. It was mine for 42 years, but it’s Duke’s forever.”

It’s a nice statement from Coach K, but nobody is buying it.

College Basketball Doesn’t Believe Coach K

Krzyzewski is handing things over to associate head coach Jon Scheyer after the season, a move he reportedly had a lot to do with.

According to Ian O’Connor’s new book “Coach K: The Rise and Reign of Mike Krzyzewski,” Duke offered the Duke job toH arvard basketball coach Tommy Amaker. Duke ultimately announced Jon Scheyer as Coach K’s successor because that’s how Krzyzewski wanted it.

Per O’Connor’s book, the biggest reason Coach K wanted Scheyer to step in and take over instead of Amaker is because he “would maintain more control over the program.”

With that being the case, not one single person seems to be buying Coach K’s claim saying he’ll be completely hands-off with the program when he hangs it up.
