It has been 25 days since Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams announced his plans to enter the transfer portal. He has yet to commit.

Williams, who began the year as the backup for the Sooners and took over as the starter against Texas, is linked to three schools— USC, Wisconsin and LSU.

Wherever he ends up, both Williams and his family have made it very clear that getting him ready for the NFL is the most important factor.

Ever since head coach Lincoln Riley left Norman for the same job with the Trojans in Los Angeles, the expectation was that his true freshman quarterback would follow. That seems to remain the case, and if a new student database entry is any indication, Williams’ commitment to the Trojans is imminent.

Beyond USC, reports over the past few weeks have indicated that his final two also includes LSU. That doesn’t make too much sense, because Brian Kelly does not have a history of developing quarterbacks at Notre Dame. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. Fighting Irish quarterbacks have been historically terrible on the next level.

And in recent days, a new suitor has emerged.

Wisconsin is now in the mix, at least, in the media narrative. Williams has ties to the Badgers, but based on his previous comments about the NFL, the move doesn’t make any sense.

Thus, the understanding is that Williams is headed to play for Riley in Los Angeles. However, USC and its staff continue to make sure every i is dotted and t is crossed in case that tampering accusations were to be thrown in their direction.

Riley may have even hinted at Williams’ upcoming commitment. He is not the only one.

On Friday afternoon, Colin Cowherd cryptically tweeted that he is “hearing things.” He included a peace emoji, which is USC’s hand symbol, V for victory.

When a V for victory is attached, it refers to the Trojans. That means Cowherd is hearing things about USC.

Could it be that Riley hired a new assistant coach? Could it be that USC received a big donation for its water polo team?

OR, could it be that Williams is soon to commit? It certainly seems that way.

Stay tuned.
