Free-agent Colin Kaepernick wrote a letter, released through rapper J. Cole, asking the Jets to sign him to the practice squad amid the Aaron Rodgers injury.

Cole wrote on Instagram: “I asked Colin @kaepernick7 if I could share this letter with the world. He was reluctant. My argument was that I believe the people and all organizations should know the truth about how hard he works and how much he still wants to play. And always has. In the end, he agreed to let me.

I wish the @nyjets organization luck. My boy @bas is a big a– fan so I saw the heartbreak of every Jets fan when Arod went down @richeisen Everyone from players, to coaches, to execs are feeling the pressure I’m sure. I hope y’all can turn it around, and I hope there’s a spot out there for my boy Kap. PEACE”

Kaepernick, who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016, seems unlikely to be signed at this point, at age 35, but he isn’t giving up yet.

A recent report from earlier this month by NFL Insider Josina Anderson indicated that the Jets are not pursuing Kaepernick for their QB room.

It was also reported Kaepernick’s agent recently reached out to the Jets to see if they’ll sign him.

Partly in the letter, Kaepernick wrote: “Worst case scenario, you see what have to offer and you’re not that impressed.”

“Best case scenario, you realize you have a real weapon at your disposal in the event you ever need to use it.”

“In either of these scenarios, would be committed to getting your defense ready week in and week out, all season long, and I would wear that responsibility like a badge of honor.”

The Jets lost franchise QB Aaron Rodgers on Week 1 of the 2023 season and raw Zach Wilson, the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 Draft, replaced him, however Wilson has failed to win any of his starts while throwing 4 interceptions on the year and failing to move the ball on offense.
