The Washington Commanders have been at the center of controversy for several years now and they’re in the midst of finally moving on without Dan Snyder.

Or, so we all thought. As it turns out, the recent $6.05 billion purchase by a group led by Josh Harris is at a stand still.

According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post, “the complications are related at least in part to legal issues pertaining to the leaking of emails that led to the October 2021 resignation of Jon Gruden as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.”

The Gruden emails are a complicated situation in their own right, but this makes things oddly difficult for the Commanders sale.

Jhabvala goes on to claim that her sources describe this sale stall “as ‘significant’ and ‘not just some small snag,’ expressing the view that the issues could delay the owners’ approval of the sale and the closing of the deal if they’re not resolved.”

In the same breath, Nicki Jhabvala’s source claims there is a “possibility that Snyder and his attorneys merely are attempting to extract last-minute concessions from the NFL on legal indemnification related to Gruden’s lawsuit against the league.”

The NFL was planning to hold a vote to approve the sale on Thursday, July 20. But this new report by The Washington Post may complicate that voting session.

With that said, more information should come light between now and the NFL’s meeting in Minneapolis on the 20th.

It’s wild to think that Jon Gruden’s leaked emails are holding up the Commanders’ sale nearly two years later, but here we are.

Only time will tell how this plays out but hopefully, more information comes to light soon.
