Washington Commanders has traded their former second overall pick, pass-rusher Chase Young, to the San Francisco 49ers.

FOX’s Jay Glazer reports that Washington received a third-round pick in exchange for the star defensive end.

This news follows an earlier trade today when the Commanders sent DE Montez Sweat to the Bears in exchange for a second-round pick. These moves signal a significant shift in Washington’s strategy, as both Young and Sweat were once considered foundational players for the team.

The Commanders now find themselves in a rebuilding phase, amassing five picks in the first three rounds, including three in the top 50.

The 49ers’ defensive line is looking quite formidable with the addition of Chase Young, joining a roster that includes Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, Arik Armstead, Drake Jackson, Randy Gregory, and Javon Kinlaw.

Chase Young, who was drafted second overall in the 2020 Draft, has recorded five sacks this season and 14 career sacks since entering the league.

Injuries limited him in 2021 and 2022, limiting him to 12 games. However, Young boasts an impressive 26 quarterback hits and 19 tackles for loss in his career, earning him the Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2020.

This trade will deliver a big boost for the 49ers’ pass-rush, on a defense that made it to the NFC Championship last season.
