Eagles DE Derek Barnett Describes How Tom Brady Stopped Him In His Tracks To Congratulate Him Post-Super Bowl

There was a lot to be said about Tom Brady’s supposed snub of Nick Foles following Super Bowl LII. Media outlets were claiming Brady “stormed down the tunnel” like he was going to light the Eagles’ locker room on fire. It was very lightly reported that Brady did shake hands and congratulate both Zach Ertz and Fletcher Cox, and its very likely that Brady was giving the quarterback he continuously praised on media day his opportunity to celebrate his first Super Bowl win. Tom Brady isn’t the first quarterback not to shake his opponents’ hand after a Super Bowl, and certainly won’t be the last.

Regardless, Twitter had one conclusion: Tom Brady is a crybaby sore loser.

Turns out, Brady did congratulate Eagles players when the chaos died down. Below is Brady chatting with rookie defensive end Derek Barnett:

Titans writer Jim Wyatt detailed a post-Super Bowl interaction, via TitansOnline:

Brady stopped in his tracks to congratulate the former Brentwood Academy and University of Tennessee star. The two chatted for a few moments before Brady shook Barnett’s hand, and gave him a hug. Then the two men went their separate ways.

“It’s crazy,” Barnett said after the game. “I told him how I looked up to him when I was younger. I told him to be able to compete against him, it was an honor.

“And he was super cool. He told me we had a hell of a season, and we deserved it. And he told me to keep working hard. He’s a great player, and a great competitor. I feel like I was lucky to be able to go against one of the greatest football players to ever play the game.”

I don’t know why I even bothered writing this. The Brady detractors will never be satisfied.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
