On Sunday, the Eagles hosted the Cowboys for the latest installment of their storied rivalry, and one coach found himself going viral courtesy of a clip that convinced plenty of people he was rocking a red thong on the sideline. However, it doesn’t appear that was actually the case based on his response.

Matt Leo took a very interesting path to get to where he is today. The man who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Eagles was born and raised in Australia, where he played rugby and Aussie rules football while growing up.

Leo worked as a plumber before deciding to give American football a shot after getting hooked on the television show Friday Night Lights, and the 6’7″, 280-pound defensive end was 26 years old when he played his first game for the Iowa State Hawkeyes in 2017.

The DE took advantage of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program to get a shot with the Eagles in 2020, and while he never got the chance to play in a regular season game, he spent some time on the practice squad before opting to pivot to coaching after retiring prior to the start of the 2023 campaign.

During the third quarter of his team’s showdown with the Cowboys, Leo got tripped up on the sideline and gave viewers a glimpse of the red underwear he was rocking under his pants while getting back to his feet.

The pattern of the underwear convinced plenty of people Leo was sporting a thong, but after those accusations came to his attention, he hopped on Instagram to seemingly clarify that was not the case while shouting out the brand that supplied him (they do sell thongs, but based on a quick examination of their inventory, it seems like he was wearing a pair with this type of waistband).
