The Steelers are technically tied at the top of the AFC North, but fans of the team are still less than thrilled with the scheme offensive coordinator Matt Canada has implemented this season—and plenty of people who attended the Penguins’ home opener aired their grievances with a thunderous chant that broke out during the game.

Canada spent around a decade coaching college football programs in various capacities before linking up with the Steelers in 2020.  He spent his first season in Pittsburgh as the team’s quarterbacks coach before getting promoted to O.C. following Randy Fichtner’s departure at the end of that campaign, but he’s struggled to find his footing since then.

There was already a target on Canada’s back heading into the season, and he didn’t do himself any favors with the anemic offensive showing that led to the Steelers getting blown out by the 49ers in Week 1. Calls for his dismissal have grown louder with each week that’s passed,  and while it seems like the Steelers managed to beat the Ravens in spite of his play-calling, the franchise doesn’t appear to be in any major rush to change things up.

It’s safe to assume the offensive coordinator heard the “FIRE CANADA” chant that filled Acrisure Stadium during the showdown with Baltimore. I can only hope he didn’t head to PPG Paints Arena to watch the Penguins host the Blackhawks in Connor Bedard’s NHL debut on Tuesday night, as plenty of people in attendance sent the exact same message during the contest.

Canada and the Steelers will be able to take advantage of a bye week in the hopes of trying to address some of their offensive issues, but at this point, it’s very hard to imagine they’re going to stumble upon an immediate fix to those woes.
