Giannis Antetokounmpo Had A Game-Winning Dunk, But It Shouldn’t Have Counted

Friday night’s matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder was a highly entertaining game that featured Russell Westbrook having a Dunk of the Year contender, a game-tying three-pointer in the last seconds, and Giannis Antetokounmpo had a game-winning dunk that shouldn’t have counted. Let’s start with Westbrook’s Dunk of the Year contender in the third quarter and pay our respects to the dearly departed Thon Maker.

Fast forward to the fourth quarter with 10.1 seconds left where Beastbrook struck again, this time with a game-tying three-pointer with 4.7 seconds left in the game.

The Bucks turned to their own franchise player and Giannis literally rose to the occasion to hammer home a game-winning dunk over Westbrook.

However, after closer inspection, you can easily see that Antetokounmpo stepped out of bounds on the way to the rim. Something that ref Leon Wood should have spotted since he was a foot away from the play. The officials stopped play to adjust the time on the clock from 0.9 seconds to 1.3 seconds but did not review the play. “In any reviewable matter, there has to be a whistle called on the floor,” crew chief Derrick Stafford said after the game. “There was no whistle blown for the play, so we couldn’t review it.”

Paul George couldn’t believe the missed call.

The Bucks walked off with the 97-95 victory thanks to the blown call and Antetokounmpo, who finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. Westbrook finished the game with a near triple-double effort — 40 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists. This is the second time this week the NBA has seen a game-winning dunk. The Suns won with a walk-off alley-oop thanks to a little-known NBA rule.
