Packers Fans Aren’t Happy That The Team’s Twitter Posted New First-Round Pick In Clay Matthews’ Old No. 52 Jersey

Green Bay Packers fans are mad the team posted Twitter pic of rookie in Clay Matthews jersey already

Green Bay Packers fans are pretty pissed off that the team’s disrespecting former linebacker Clay Matthews III. OK, so Matthews, the longtime defender, might have left via free-agency about two months ago, but, hey, don’t tell that to the team’s faithful fanbase, because they’re not quite ready to let go of the memory of the former All-Pro player just yet.

That’s because the Twitter account for the Green Bay Packers posted a picture of recent first-round NFL Draft pick Rashan Gary sporting Matthews’ familiar No 52 and, oh boy, did people have comments — including the 32-year-old Matthews himself, who left for the Los Angeles Rams this offseason after the Packers wanted to get younger at the position. Just take a look at what Clay slyly replied after seeing the picture of Gary in his old uniform.

As mentioned, though, Clay Matthews wasn’t the only one who felt a little hurt and/or disrespected that the Green Bay Packers would show another player in his old uniform number. Just look at what other fans were saying on Twitter in response to seeing the photo of Rashan Gary in No. 52.

Look, it’s understandable that some Packers fans would be a little sentimental about seeing another player in Clay Matthews’ old uniform so early on since he departed the team, but, c’mon, this is sports, nothing seems to be sacred anymore. Unless your name’s Aaron Rodgers, there isn’t a player on that team whose jersey number can’t be replaced by another guy. Is it a little cold that the Green Bay Packers did it just a few months after Matthews left? Maybe. That doesn’t mean it would make it any less weird had they posted the picture of Rashan Gary in No. 52 a few months from now, so nobody should really have a problem with this; it’s not like it’s retired by the team or anything.
