Grey Zabel is headed west after being selected 18th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. The former North Dakota State offensive lineman could not be more thrilled!
However, he and his family are in dire need of more beer.
Zabel, 23, hails from Pierre, the capital city of South Dakota. It is the ninth-most populous city in the state with just shy of 15,000 full-time residents. The 6-foot-6, 304-pound offensive lineman grew up on the farm alongside his extremely athletic family.

His father, Mark, played football in college. His mother, Tanna, ran track and field and played basketball. Of of his two brothers, Jett, is a tight end at NDSU. The other brother, Peyton, played baseball at Texas State.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of commonalities between sports and farming! Especially football.
Growing up, working at the farm, and kind of understanding that farming and football have a lot in common. You plant seed in the dirt in the spring and tend to it and try to get it as much as you can to grow a great crop in the fall, and football is the same exact way. You work all offseason to get your body strong, healthy, and then you go reap the benefits in the fall. Those three things are kind of what describes me, and I hold them pretty close to my heart.

Much like in farming, Grey Zabel worked hard over the last few months to yield a hypothetical crop worthy of a first round pick in the NFL Draft. It is time to celebrate!

When asked about his plans for the rest of the night, Zabel had one thing on his mind — beer. Rather, beers. Many of them. He allows himself 12 hours to celebrate after a win on the gridiron. This would be the same.
More specifically, the Zabel family’s beer of choice is Busch Light. The party was just getting started!
I’m probably going to start diving into these Busch Lights and celebrate. We have the 12-hour rule. We get to celebrate it for 12 hours and then we get back to work. I’ve got an unbelievable crew here, my head coach, my offensive line coach. They’re all down here and a lot of friends and family. High alert for Pierre, South Dakota; we’re going to have some fun and we’re going to enjoy this tonight.

There was only one problem with that plan. It did not take long for the Zabel household to run dry.
Grey Zabel made his announcement about Busch Light around 9:45 p.m. CT. His brother declared a state of emergency around 10:58 p.m. CT.

@BuschBeer please help
It took the Zabel contingency less than 90 minutes to run out of beer. They were thirsty!
There is no telling what happened next. Maybe the Zabels turned to the hard stuff. Maybe they had an extra 30 of a different light domestic beer on reserve. Perhaps they got on their tractor and drove to the nearest tavern like they one day soon will to Seattle.

If I have learned anything in life, it is not to mess with middle America when it comes to Busch Light. They will drink you under the table with a performance as impressive as Grey Zabel and his family on Thursday!
