Henry Ruggs Involved In Serious Car Accident, Charged With ‘DUI Resulting In Death’

Henry Ruggs, the 22-year-old wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, was involved in a serious car accident in Las Vegas early Tuesday morning. As a result of the accident, Ruggs, who police say showed “signs of impairment”, has been charged with “DUI resulting in death”.

The accident occurred at around 3:39 AM. Ruggs, who was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette, reportedly crashed into a Toyota Rav4, killing the driver.

Cops tell us Ruggs was behind the wheel, driving his Chevrolet Corvette, when he crashed into a Toyota Rav4 around 3:39 AM. The Toyota caught on fire and first responders located a deceased person in the SUV.

Ruggs was transported to a local hospital for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries. Cops tell us the NFL star showed “signs of impairment” at the scene … and they will be charging him with DUI resulting in death. [via TMZ]

In a statement to TMZ Sports, Ruggs’ lawyers David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld said they “are conducting our own investigation as of this writing and ask everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are gathered.” Ruggs was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the investigation remains ongoing at the time of this writing. The victim in the accident has yet to be identified.

Following the news of the incident, the Raiders released the following statement:

“The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred this morning in Las Vegas. We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”

Ruggs was drafted by the then Jon Gruden-coached Las Vegas Raiders in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Gruden resigned as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this season following the leak of various racist, misogynistic, and homophobic emails.
