Boston Bruins winger Jakub Lauko’s modeling career is in serious jeopardy after the first-year NHL player took a hockey skate to the face earlier this week. His face is pretty busted up, as you could imagine.

Lauko is very fortunate to have avoided a more serious injury. He may have even lost an eye if the skate had sliced across his face just a few inches further to the left.

Lauko is going to take a few nights off to recover. However, the 23-year-old is in good spirits and will be okay. He even cracked a joke about the scary incident one day after it occurred on Wednesday night.

It all went down midway through the third period against the Blackhawks.

A loose puck along the boards caused a bit of a pileup. Lauko was down on all fours on the ice.

Chicago center Jason Dickinson was trying to gather himself, and the puck. While moving across the glass, his right foot kicked up and caught Lauko in the face.

Ouch.

Although the injury looked painful in real time, it looks even more so in a new photo of the NHL rookie. Lauko shared an image of his face — which shows multiple stitches that reach from just inside of his eyebrow on the bridge of his nose down to the crease of his eye. He also has a very black eye.

Lauko is able to laugh about the incident now that he knows it will heal. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have perspective into how close he came to a much more serious issue.

Most people recognize just how painful it would be to take a blade to the face. Seeing the gnarly condition that Lauko is in right now really drives it home.

A timetable for Lauko’s return is unclear at this point, and the Bruins will not rush him back.
