  • With Troy Aikman making the move to ESPN, Fox Sports is looking for a new lead NFL analyst.
  • Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler is reportedly interested in returning to the broadcasting booth.
  • Cutler briefly called games for Fox back in 2017 before returning to the NFL to play for the Miami Dolphins.

Former Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler is reportedly looking to pursue a career in broadcasting, according to a new report from Front Office Sports.

The famously mercurial signal-caller was previously hired by Fox to be their #2 analyst behind Troy Aikman back in 2017. Cutler — who was set to be paired with Charles Davis and Kevin Burkhardt — ultimately never called a game for Fox, as he instead returned to the league as a backup QB for the Miami Dolphins to the tune of $10 million/year.

“I would love to do it. I think it’s a fun gig. It keeps you in the game,” Cutler said to Front Office Sports. “If an opportunity arises, I would jump at it.”

Cutler, now 38-years-old, played in the NFL for 12 seasons after being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Following three seasons in the AFC West, Cutler was traded to the Bears, where he spent the following eight seasons. Cutler then briefly retired before playing for the Miami Dolphins for one additional season.

With Troy Aikman making the jump over to ESPN’s Monday Night Football, Fox is in the market for a new #1 analyst.

In addition to Cutler, Fox Sports is also reportedly in negotiations with former New Orleans Saints Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton, who would become the new broadcasting partner of Joe Buck. There are also talks of former Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, and Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen, who excelled as Fox’s #2 analyst this past season, getting a shot at the gig, according to Front Office Sports.
