On December 2, 2021, Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels announced in a since-deleted post that he was returning for his senior season in Tempe. There were a lot of rumors that he was going to transfer, but that post appeared to put them to rest.

Thus, when Daniels entered the transfer portal on February 17, 2022, it was quite the shock. The decision did not go over well with his Sun Devils teammates and they trashed his locker and slandered his name live on Instagram.

On Sunday afternoon, Daniels announced that he is transferring to LSU. Rumors had been circulating around the move over the last few weeks, but now it is official.

With the move, four scholarship quarterbacks are set to compete for a chance to try and run the gauntlet in the hardest conference in college football. Daniels, five-star freshman Walker Howard, six-year senior Myles Brennan and four-star sophomore Garrett Nussmeier will be on the roster come the fall.

In the meantime, Daniels has to get acclimated to his new environment and get on the field with the Tigers. According to Bill Embody of The Bengal Tiger, he is set to make the move in exactly seven days.

That will allow him to compete in spring practice.

Daniels is slated to arrive in Baton Rouge on March 14th, while the rest of the students are on spring break. That will give him a chance to enroll in what LSU calls an “accelerated session.”

Classes for the second spring “accelerated session” will begin on March 21st and final exams are held on May 7th and 9th. To participate in spring ball, a student must be enrolled in classes.

Daniels will start class on March 21st and LSU will begin its spring practice on March 24. The spring game will be held on April 23rd.

Howard will probably redshirt. Nussmeier is also considered to be a developing player.

That will likely leave Brennan and Daniels to compete for the starting role. It will be curious to see how things unfold, but getting the Arizona State transfer enrolled in time to play this spring had a big part in Kelly’s decision to pursue him from the portal. That’s big.
