Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid are now teammates following a blockbuster trade
The Boston Celtics made one of the biggest moves of the NBA offseason as they traded All-Star and former NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. Brown called out Sixers franchise star Joel Embiid for flopping just a couple of months ago.
On Wednesday, July 1, the Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George, a 2028 first-round pick (or swap), an unprotected 2031 first-round pick, and two second-round picks.
If the Sixers can come together as a team and perform to their talent ability (and, as always, if Joel Embiid can stay healthy), they’ll be one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference and reach the NBA Finals next season.
That will require Brown and Embiid getting along, however, which may be a little more difficult than it would have otherwise been due to comments Brown made about Embiid earlier this year.
Jaylen Brown previously called Joel Embiid a flopper and said that the act of doing so has ruined the NBA
“Flopping has ruined our game. Joel Embiid is a great player. One of the best f—— bigs in basketball history. Flops! He know it. This ain’t breaking news,” Brown said.
“Flopping has ruined our league. Joel Embiid is one of the greatest players that has played basketball, but he flops. He knows it too,” Brown said back in May.

Despite the trade of Brown, the Celtics remain one of the sportsbooks’ top four betting favorites to win the NBA title next season, trailing only the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and defending champions New York Knicks. The 76ers, on the other hand, are now in the top five betting favorites to win the 2026/27 NBA championship, with odds of roughly +2000.
