Jevon Porter will not continue his college basketball career at Pepperdine. He announced his plans to enter the transfer portal on Friday night.

The timing of the declaration was hilarious.

Jevon, the little brother of NBA champion and former first round pick Michael Porter Jr. of the Denver Nuggets, did not waste any time. His team had yet to even make it all of the way back into the locker room before the news broke. They might not have been out of the handshake line!

The Waves lost a second round matchup in the West Coast Conference Tournament to the San Diego Toreros by five. Its admin posted the final score at 8:08 p.m. local time.

Porter’s announcement first hit social media at 8:11 p.m.

Three minutes passed. Three.

Obviously, Porter knew that he was on his way out long prior to the game. His head coach was fired earlier in the week. His team won just 13 games. The graphic was ready to go for immediate postgame.

Regardless of how long Porter had planned to enter the portal, it seems like he could have waited until the morning. Or, at the very least, until after Pepperdine had exited the arena for the final time together.

But that is not how it went down! Three minutes!

Porter, a former three-star recruit, chose to play in Malibu over an offer from Missouri. His dad used to be on staff with the Tigers. Both of his brothers, Michael and Jontay, played in Columbia.

Jevon went in a different direction. The 6-foot-11, 220-pound forward will be a junior at a new program next season after averaging 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in 31.4 minutes for the Waves in 2023/24. He is a highly-skilled three-level scorer who could make a serious impact as a starter at a high-major college basketball program next year.

If it wasn’t clear by the timing of his declaration, Jevon Porter is eager to move on to his new opportunity!
