There’s now one Colorado player with an assigned number ahead of the 2023 season. That player is an incoming transfer who plans to make major contributions at the wide receiver position.

Jimmy Horn Jr. earned his No. 5 this week as the Buffaloes continue through spring practice. Many on social media have been quick to comment on the news.

In his first season at the helm, new head coach Deion Sanders decided to make players wear blank jerseys before earning their choice of number. It’s been part of a culture change Coach Prime is bringing to Boulder.

Jimmy Horn Jr. came over as part of Sanders’ top ranked transfer class, and he expects to see the field early and often on offense. The pass catcher was productive at South Florida, hauling in 67 catches for 959 yards over two seasons.

Now, he looks to bring that production to Colorado.

He’s already done a nice job of building chemistry with starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders. In fact, he was recently spotted in Miami with his signal caller during spring break as they worked on routes and timing.

The hard work is clearly paying off.

Coach Nick Williams commented on the news of Jimmy Horn’s new number, saying, “He’s doing things he’s supposed to do. He’s living up to the standard… He’s working hard. He’s dependable. He’s doing more, he’s doing extra. He’s showed that he’s here, and he wants to win, and he’s a team guy.”

Fans were quick to react on social media.

One person wrote, “That boy is going to be good,” while another said, “That boy been working!”

This fan commented, “He’s going to be a problem for DBs.”

Horn and the Buffaloes will continue spring practice over the next few weeks before ending with the Black and Gold game on April 22.
