There was once a time when the word “nerd” was used as an insult, but for the most part, it no longer has the stigma it once did, as people nowadays are more than happy to let their geek flag fly and embrace the label now that video games, superhero movies, and shows about dragons have firmly entered the mainstream.

An astute reader may have noticed I included the phrase “for the most part” in the previous sentence, because while it is frequently used as a term of endearment nowadays, that can’t be said when it comes to using it to describe Darren Rovell, who may be the nerdiest nerd to ever nerd.

To Rovell’s credit, there aren’t many public figures out there who are more knowledgable about the sports business world but he makes sure to remind people of that fact in the most insufferable way possible on an almost hourly basis thanks to his crippling Twitter addiction.

Over the past year alone, Rovell—who once tried to get a fellow reporter’s credentials revoked over a picture he posted on the platform—has been repeatedly put in his place thanks to ill-advised tweets.

Tom Brady blasted him, the Titans made him look like a buffoon, and the entire internet put aside its differences and rallied around a common cause when he mocked LSU’s gymnastics team.

Now, we can add a new name to the list of people who’ve shoved him into a locker thanks to J.J. Watt.

On Thursday, Rovell tweeted out a picture of the Texans’ training camp pass along with a brilliantly insightful comment.

The tweet eventually came to Watt’s attention, who reminded Rovell that he tackles people for a living.

To Rovell’s credit, he took the L and moved on.

Of course, it should be noted that dunking on Darren Rovell is kind of like posterizing a toddler on a Nerf hoop; it’s not exactly the most difficult thing in the world, but in the end, it’s still pretty damn satisfying.
