JJ Watt Is Convinced He Is Being Hazed By Boomer Esiason For Being A ‘NFL Today’ Rookie

JJ Watt has been having quite a good time since retiring from the NFL.

He’s getting his own Wheaties box.

He’s gone pub-crawling with Burnley FC fans after becoming a minority owner of the club.

He’s attended a Taylor Swift concert, hit a hole in one, and he’s had multiple offers to become a TV analyst.

As for the latter, JJ Watt ended up choosing CBS over NBC and the NFL Network and will make his first appearance as a studio analyst on The NFL Today on Sunday.

On Friday, Watt called in to the Boomer & Gio show on WFAN to talk about his new gig with his new co-worker Boomer Esiason.

“So you know how our friends at Breitling take care of the guys at The NFL Today?” Esiason says to his co-hosts during the interview. “And ever year they like to give us a gift…

“So I send out the link to these guys on my group to pick your watch this year, what you’d like. And JJ thought it was a scam,” Esiason reveals. “He thought it was like a rookie scam.”

“100 percent,” Watt shot back. “I am still convinced that somehow I am going to get a bill for a $15,000 watch and then also, I’m gonna get a bill for Boomer’s $15,000 watch and Bill Cowher’s $15,000 watch.”

“Well, you know you are coming in as the richest guy on the set,” Boomer replied with a grin.

Esiason is not wrong there. JJ Watt made almost $130 million playing in the NFL.

Interestingly, Watt admitted in August that for years he really didn’t want to become a studio analyst.

“I always said early in my career I didn’t want to be an analyst,” Watt told the Houston Chronicle. “I said, ‘Those guys don’t know what they’re talking about.’ They always rip on players when they don’t know their assignments. They always talk bad about us. I said, ‘I don’t want to do that.’ But now, leaving the game, I realize how much I love it and how much I can’t stand to not be around it. This is the perfect opportunity.”

Now if he can just be more careful about cussing on the air like he did during his segment on Boomer and Gio on Friday, Watt will be all set.
