Thanks to the ESPN The Last Dance documentary series about the Chicago Bulls’ 1997-98 season, legendary stories involving Michael Jordan have been coming fast and furious.

Everyone from former teammates and coaches to those who played against him and many, many others have been sharing their personal tales of the encounters with The GOAT.

One of those NBA players, Kevin Durant, shared his favorite Michael Jordan moment wasn’t even in the league when His Airness played.

He was, however, a kid aspiring to become a basketball star in the gyms in and around Washington, D.C. when Jordan came out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards.

He shared his favorite Jordan moment when he spoke this week with Jay Williams.

“I know all of the championships and all that stuff. I would never disrespect or discredit those,” Durant admitted on ESPN’s The Boardroom. “But for me personally, when he decided to come and play in my hometown I just felt so inspired.”

“You hear about M.J. all the way up until that point and it seems like he’s so far away. Now he’s in the same city and I can catch a train down there and go catch a game and see the greatest player play. Even though he was older he was still killing. Averaging 20, getting 40s, still looking good in the midrange. That was the most inspiring moment [for me], when he came to the Wizards.”

Durant was also asked if he believed Jordan would be as good in today’s NBA as he was back in the day.

“He can adapt his game to anything,” Durant told Williams. “He would fit in as the best player in the league. That’s what he would be. He would have more possessions to do more things. More space for M.J. to go to work. We’ll never know, but for sure he’s a masterful basketball player, and like we’ve been saying his skill level is unmatched.”
