The transfer portal is truly crazy, and we have an entry that many would not have suspected, as Ohio State starting quarterback Kyle McCord is hopping into the portal.

The news was reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

Later, Kyle McCord confirmed it on Twitter.

McCord was one of the highest-ranked quarterback recruits in the class of 2021 out of national power St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. After mostly sitting behind CJ Stroud in his first two seasons, he won the starting job coming into this season, beating out highly-touted second-year player Devin Brown.

Expectations were wildly high, given the production that offense put up the last few years and how good Stroud, who is shining in the NFL as a rookie, was. Many Ohio State fans will say he didn’t meet those expectations, which is pretty absurd considering the numbers he put up.

On the season, he threw for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions. His signature performance was a 286-yard, one touchdown performance against the nation’s top-ranked defense in Penn State in October.

But, as is always the case at Ohio State, you’ve got to beat Michigan. And, Ohio State fell short for the third-straight year, losing 30-24. The Ohio State offense moved the ball, but McCord’s two interceptions, albeit one in a desperation drive to end the game with limited and no timeouts, had Buckeye fans complaining on social media.

Players are allowed to return to their original school after entering the transfer portal, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Surely, a player of his ability and experience in big games will have a lot of high-profile suitors in the transfer portal.
