LaNorris Sellers is not attending class as a South Carolina senior.

LaNorris Sellers is making $2 million as a college senior to play football and not attend class. He has earned that right as a result of academic excellence.

The quarterback is on track to graduate before heading off to the NFL. He should have his degree come December.

Sellers received some backlash for his lacking courseload ahead of his final season of college football. The South Carolina passer does not have to answer to his critics.

Why isn’t LaNorris Sellers attending class?

Hale McGranahan of The Big Spur posted a story which referenced the signal caller’s light academic workload earlier this week. He revealed that Sellers’ next semester will be spent working at a local golf course as opposed to in the classroom.

LaNorris Sellers doesn’t have any classes this semester. His only school commitment outside of football is an internship at The Par Tee Golf Center in West Columbia.

“Just facility management and stuff like that, cutting grass and picking up balls like that,” he said of his upcoming gig. The job represents the final requirement for graduation.

Sellers is an undergraduate student of the Sport and Entertainment Management program at South Carolina, which is part of the school of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management.

Studies revolve around business management to include events, accounting, finance, facilities, media relations, sports law, and more. Graduates have gone onto professions with venue operators, booking agencies, promotors, and athletic department administrators.

The program is nationally regarded as part of the No. 2-ranked sport science program in the United States.

I graduated with the same degree at South Carolina in 2013. My final semester consisted of an athletic compliance internship at a nearby college. I did not have to attend class. Instead, I gained real-world experience.

Where my situation differs from Sellers is that I took five years to graduate (Victory laps are fun). Sellers is a whole year ahead!

The senior sport and entertainment major from Florence, S.C. will graduate in December once he’s finished with the internship.

Sellers enrolled in January of 2023. His early enrollment gave him an extra semester in college that typically would’ve been spent in high school. He is now four years into his degree program.

The QB can focus on football.

While he will still need to adhere to internship requirements, his final semester will look much different than most other students. He shouldn’t have to cram for exams. He won’t have daily quizzes and tests.

There is “homework,” but if I recall correctly, it mainly consisted of providing week-to-week updates on your job progress and experience.

That will allow Sellers to focus on football as the Gamecocks look to bounce back from a 4-8 season. Last year, the quarterback was considered a Heisman contender leading a dark horse playoff team. Expectations have changed drastically in one year.

South Carolina struggled to close out games in 2025. They led Alabama, Texas A&M, and Missouri in the fourth quarter before crumbling. They also trailed Clemson, LSU, and Ole Miss by a touchdown only to lose by double digits.

The Gamecocks hope to reverse the trend in 2026. LaNorris Sellers will play a large role in success. He has the luxury of a light courseload in his senior season. We’ll see if it impacts his production on the field.
