Player measurements are frequently a very hot topic of conversation ahead of the NFL Draft, and many prospects have to deal with some fairly absurd debates about their hand size and arm length. That includes former LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell, who pushed back after his numbers in that second category managed to attract some scrutiny.

It’s hard to blame NFL teams for poring over every single detail at their disposal when deciding which players to select in the draft, and there’s no shortage of data to comb through when it comes to evaluating prospects.

Players who get the chance to showcase their skills at the combine undergo a physical examination that includes fairly standard evaluations of their height and weight as well as measurements to determine their hand size, arm length, and wingspan, subcategories that are used to determine if they fit the typical archetypes for various positions.

For example, quarterbacks want to have a throwing hand that’s at least nine inches if they don’t want to raise red flags among teams that widely view that as the minimum threshold for an NFL-caliber passer, and Kenny Pickett and Jalen Milroe are recent examples of guys who’ve had to deal with those concerns.

There’s a similar standard in place for offensive linemen, as 34 inches is largely considered the cutoff point for arm length. As a result, former LSU OT Will Campbell also found himself under the microscope after his arms came in at 32 and 5/8 inches at the combine where he posted the fastest 40-yard dash time of any guy at his position at 4.98 seconds.

Campbell was a first-team All-American with the Tigers last season and named first-team All-SEC for the second year in a row while winning the Jacobs Blocking Trophy awarded to the best lineman in the conference, and the 6’6″, 319-pound beast has more than shown he knows what he’s doing in the trenches.

With that said, it seems like there’s a chance his arm size could impact his draft stock, but he made it very clear he wasn’t too concerned while speaking with the media at the pro day where that number improved to 33 inches.

Campbell didn’t mince words when asked to address that particular concern, saying:

“For two years, nobody had any measurements on me, and nobody said anything about my play. So now, all of a sudden, arm length decides if I’m a good player or not? I think it’s BS.

Any decision makers in the NFL, they don’t really care; it’s all people who don’t coach, and they don’t coach for a reason.”

Go off king.
