With almost three full seasons in the National Football League under his belt, it’s now painfully clear that Mac Jones — at least this current iteration — is not an NFL-caliber quarterback, let alone one worthy of being a franchise QB.
During Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants, the 25-year-old Jones was benched in favor of the equally inept Bailey Zappe for the umpteenth time over the last couple of seasons, further confirming what most football fans suspected when he was coming out of the University of Alabama: the kid just does not have an NFL arm.
Given that his tenure as New England’s starting quarterback seems to be all but dead and buried, NFL fans are now jokingly wondering what Jones will do in his next career. So far, two viral tweets have imagined Jones as a pastor at a megachurch or a real estate agent.
“Hey, folks. Mac Jones here. In my playing days, it was all about getting that extra yard. These days, I’m all about getting you the front yard of your dream home as the Tuscaloosa area’s number-one RE/MAX agent. Give me a call today!” https://t.co/xkR09ci4Mo pic.twitter.com/nFKCdZffxd

While Jones led the Patriots to the playoffs and was named to the Pro Bowl during his rookie season in 2021, the former University of Alabama QB has regressed since then.
So far through 11 games this season, Jones has completed 65% of his passes for 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Things have gotten so bad for Jones, in fact, that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is now being asked to defend the decision to take him in the first round of the NFL Draft over two years ago. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Belichick didn’t give Jones a glowing vote of confidence, simply saying “Organizationally, we thought it was the right thing to do.”

Sitting at 2-9, the Patriots will now head into the final month of the season with tons of questions surrounding the future of the 71-year-old Belichick, whose winning percentage is down 30% since Tom Brady left following the 2019 season.
