Midweek MACtion returned on Tuesday, providing college football viewers with entertainment ahead of a busy weekend slate. This year’s debut wouldn’t disappoint as it kicked off with one of the more comical plays you’ll ever see.

Ball State battled Miami (OH) in the 8 PM slot with both teams looking to move up the conference standings. Despite entering as two-score favorites, the RedHawks quickly found themselves in a dogfight!

The Cardinals struck first in bizarre fashion.

After successfully stopping Miami on a third-down conversion attempt, Ball State forced a punt. Coaches sent the return team out to flip possession, but little did they know that they’d soon be celebrating in the endzone!

Miami’s all-conference punter, Alec Bevelheimer, fielded the snap without issue but dropped the ball when going to make his kick. He then scooped up the loose ball and attempted to throw it with three Cardinals defenders trying to bring him to the ground.

The series of unfortunate events led to a ridiculous pick-six!

The interception gave Ball State an early 7-0 lead. Social media exploded with reaction.

“I love this league.”

“Only in the MAC will you see this.”

“MACtion is back and it’s spectacular.”

The play continued the unpredictability often seen in these Mid-American Conference matchups.

Viewers can either find themselves watching a 10-7 slugfest or enjoying a 49-45 shootout. Unbelievable feats can occur, often in insane weather conditions.

We’ve witnessed backwards punts in gusty winds, 300-pounders performing cartwheels on trick plays, and road teams storming the fields of their host schools after massive comebacks.

You never know what you’re going to get, but you always tune in!

In Tuesday’s case, Miami would recover to win the game.

The RedHawks scored 21 of the game’s next 27 points to take a 21-13 lead into the halftime break. Ball State tied the contest up on a 55-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, but they’d be held scoreless over the final 20+ minutes of action.

Miami made a pair of late field goals to make up for the early special teams blunder and left with a 27-21 victory.
