The man injured by Davante Adams’ shove after Monday night’s game versus the Chiefs is a college student who was at his first day on the job.

His lawyer, Dan Curry with the Brown & Curry Law Firm, said that despite numerous reports, the student was carrying equipment for a camera operator, not a cameraman.

ESPN had previously reported that the student was working as a freelancer for its Monday Night Football broadcast, but didn’t specifically state in what capacity he was being employed.

“What happened was egregiously unsportsmanlike and an act of violence that should not be excused by the NFL,” Curry said in a statement.

According to a Kansas City Police Department report of the incident, the student, who has asked to remain anonymous, went to a hospital complaining of whiplash, a headache and possible minor concussion.

“He made arrangements for private transport to the hospital for treatment at which time he called police,” a Kansas City Police Department statement read.

“The injuries are preliminarily thought to be non-life threatening. The incident will be investigated by our Assault Unit detectives, upon completion they will coordinate with the applicable city or state prosecutor to determine any applicable charges.”

Adams was eventually charged with assault, a city ordinance violation, which carries a fine of $250 to $1,000 and/or up to 180 days in jail.

A court date has been set for November 10.

Davante Adams has reportedly retained a Kansas City-area defense attorney

The 29-year-old Raiders wide receiver has reportedly retained J.R. Hobbs, who KSHB News calls, “a well-known Kansas City-area defense attorney for the rich and powerful.”

Davante Adams copped to his wrongdoing Monday night, telling reporters, “Before I answer anything, I want to apologize to the guy, some guy running off the field. He ran and jumped in front of me coming off the field and I bumped into him and kind of pushed him and I think he ended up on the ground, so I want to say sorry to him for that.

“That was just frustration mixed with him literally just running in front of me. I shouldn’t have responded that way, but that’s how I initially responded, so I want to apologize to him for that.”

He also apologized on social media.

The NFL said in an email to KSHB News, “The matter is under review” and that they “do not have a timeline” for when the review will be concluded.

Davante Adams’ team, the Las Vegas Raiders, are on a bye this week.
