Matt Leinart’s son, Cole, is probably going to follow in his father’s footsteps and play football on the Division I level. However, he also got some of his mother’s genes as a standout hooper.

The two-sport phenom has unlimited range and was able to throw it down in the eighth grade!

Now at Newport Harbor High School after transferring from Mater Dei mid-season, Leinart is wrapping up his sophomore year. It is expected that he will start at quarterback for the Sailors as a junior in the fall. In the meantime, he continues to ball out on the hardwood.

At (an unofficial) 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, Leinart showed off his athleticism over the weekend and threw down a big one-handed slam during pregame. The rim-rattling dunk was so casual.

It comes effortless and his vertical is ridiculous!

Not only does Leinart have Heisman Trophy DNA, his mother is one of the greatest three-point shooters in USC women’s basketball history. Brynn Cameron was lights out from beyond the arc and passed down her handles to her first-born son. His range is unlimited!

Leinart’s ability to create opportunities as a scorer is also very impressive.

Football is presumably going to be the path forward here. Leinart is not a lefty like his dad but they share the same live arm. He will be a lot of fun to watch during his last two years of high school football and will be able to pick where he plays in college. Georgia Southern, Duke, Colorado, UNLV and Pittsburgh are among the schools that have already offered a scholarship.

However, if Leinart was to focus entirely on basketball, he would be equally as coveted of a recruit. There is also the chance that he could play both. Although it is unlikely that a quarterback will be a two-sport athlete on the collegiate level, Cole Leinart is talented enough to pull it off!
