During this weekend’s matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers, Mavs announcer Brian Dameris — perhaps still harboring some rivalry-related feelings from his days with the Houston Rockets — absolutely torched Clippers guard James Harden with a two-minute-long rant that perfectly summarized the course of his career.

Since acquiring Haren in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Clippers have a dire 0-4 record, and Dameris made sure to illustrate that this is ultimately the reality of Harden’s 14-year-long NBA career.

So far through four games with the Clippers, the 34-year-old Harden is averaging 13.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

“I get on my knees every night and pray for someone to believe in me like [76ers general manager] Daryl Morey believed in you,” Dameris begins.

First Dameris recalled Harden’s time in Houston with the Rockets, outlining how then-general manager Daryl Morey brought in the coach he wanted, Mike D’Antoni, and brought in the likes of Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook to be his teammates.

He then moved on to Harden’s time with Morey in Philadelphia:

“They traded Ben Simmons for you – how did they pull that off? And you know what, you went there and you got a partner who got the MVP. He won the MVP. And what did you say afterwards? You said, ‘They didn’t hand me the reins.’ You’re the point guard, you’re holding the reins. And what did you do when you had the reins? You scored nine points in Game 7 against Boston. You blew a 3-2 series lead.”

Dameris then dropped the hammer on Harden by using his recent “I’m the system” line against him.

“If this doesn’t work this year, in this system with this team, then you’re going to go and point fingers at everybody else. You’re going to go back home and you’re going to start swiping right for another team and there’s not going to be anybody left. Because James — you’re not The Beard, you’re not the system, you’re the problem.”

At this time, around ten games into the 82-game-long season, the Clippers currently have about the 7th-best odds to win the NBA title, which puts them behind the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Philadelphia 76ers, the team Harden left.
