We here at BroBible have tremendous respect for all who have served in uniform.  That includes the man honored today at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, as their “veteran of the game” in a 3-1, opening-day loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

This is something the Mets do every game, and it’s a cool tradition to honor a veteran.  Normally we wouldn’t cover this, so why are we today?

I’ll let you see for yourself.

That’s right folks. That’s his name. Get your laughs in now, because this guy rules.

According to the Library of Congress, he served from 1943-1946 and again from 1951-1953, first in the Army Air Force division and then in the Air Force when it spun off into its own military branch. He reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Veterans of World War II are sadly hard to come by anymore. Someone who enlisted as an eighteen-year-old right after Pearl Harbor would be at least 100 years old right now.  But, their impact on our nation and the world cannot be understated.

That extends to this great veteran. Yes, he will be a meme forever now, and it is funny. But, don’t forget about his awesome service.

Shame on the New York Mets for making this great man sit through a game where they only had one hit, a Starling Marte home run.
